'He deserves a statue in front of Anfield!' - Liverpool fans love what Willian did vs Man City

Liverpool are Premier League champions and supporters are heaping praise on one Chelsea player.

After making light work of Crystal Palace on Wednesday evening, Jurgen Klopp and his side could sit back and take in events from Stamford Bridge knowing anything other than a City win could crown them champions for the first time in 30 years.

City tried to keep those celebrations on hold but fell to a 2-1 loss.

Christian Pulisic opened the scoring with a wonderful effort as he took advantage of a defensive mixup involving Benjamin Mendy to net for the second time in as many games since the restart.

City did improve after the break and equalised with a stunning free-kick from Kevin De Bruyne on his latest return to west London.

But Chelsea are chasing Champions League football for next season and that will to win saw Willian make no mistake from the penalty spot as he sent Ederson the wrong way and sealed a 2-1 win.

Interestingly, Willian scored the final goal in a 2-0 win over Liverpool to deny them a key win in the 2013/14 title race.

Six years ago he was not a popular player among Liverpool fans.

But it's all change now.

Take a look at what Liverpool fans are saying about Willian on Twitter...

Speaking to Sky Sports after Wednesday night's game, Reds defender Trent Alexander-Arnold wasn't expecting any favours from the Blues.

"We have to focus on ourselves and not take things for granted.

"We are not really hoping that City will lose or drop points we are just focused on ourselves and we know it is in our hands."
