'He broke the law' Scots optometrist hits out at Dominic Cummings for flouting lockdown

A Scots optometrist has hit out at Dominic Cummings for driving from his family farm to check his eyesight.

Swati Best, who has a practice in Juniper Green, near Edinburgh, contacted her local Edinburgh West MP, the Lib Dem’s Christine Jardine, to voice her anger.

And the Westminster MP has forwarded the letter to the Prime Minister.

Swati claimed Cummings had broken the law with his drive of 30 minutes to Barnard Castle.

In her letter, she said: “I cannot believe Mr Dominic Cumming drove 30 miles to check his sight, with a child in the car.

"DVLA rules in the UK are clear, it is the driver’s responsibility to ensure that his sight is within the law before turning the ignition in the car.

“He intentionally drove not confident about his sight.

"He broke the law.”
