INODRE: Indore bench of high court has sought a detailed report from state government on a public interest litigation seeking a court-monitored probe into violence during donations drive for construction of Ram Mandir last year.
The petitioner also demanded compensation to victims of violence and action against police officials failing to control it.
The division bench of Justice Sujoy Paul and Justice Anil Verma while issuing a notice on petition of social worker Vineet Tiwari directed to list the PIL with similar petition of senior Congress leader Digvijaya Singh.
The petitioner through his counsel Shanno Shagufta Khan told the court that violence broke out during a rally taken out by BJYM, Bajrang Dal and Samagra Hindu Samaj at Begumbagh in Ujjain on December 25, 2020. Other incidents occurred in Chandankhedi (Indore), Darona (Mandsaur) and in Alirajpur.
In Mandsaur, instead of providing security to minority groups, family members were asked to leave their house before the rally on December 29 last year, the PIL alleged.
The petitioner also accused Mandsaur municipal corporation of demolition of minority community people houses without any prior notice or warning. The PIL sought compensation to the families and action against officials involved in the demolition.
