CUTTACK: The Orissa high court has asked the principal chief commissioner of Income Tax, Odisha, to dispose of a representation related to recruitment of meritorious sportspersons under sports quota.
The court issued the order while disposing of a petition on Monday seeking intervention against inaction on a representation to issue necessary direction to take immediate steps for recruitment of meritorious sportspersons in sports quota in the department. Siddhartha Sankar Samantray had filed petition on December 9, 2020.
While issuing the order, the two-judge bench of Chief Justice S Muralidhar and Justice B P Routray expected the principal chief commissioner, Income Tax, Odisha, to dispose of the representation on its merit preferably after hearing the petitioner by passing a reasoned order not later than November 8, 2021. “The order be communicated to the petitioner no later than November 15, 2021. If the petitioner is aggrieved by such decision, it will be open to him to seek other appropriate remedies in accordance with law,” the bench clarified in its order, a copy of which was available on Tuesday.
In his representation, Samantaray has sought compliance with the directives/instructions issued from time to time by the Government of India’s department of personnel & training (DoPT) for recruitment of sportspersons in central government departments. Sports quota is a popular scheme adopted by most sectors of government jobs and academics.
Considering the miserable condition of different talented and meritorious sportspersons of Odisha, Samantaray in his representation had appealed for immediate steps to comply with the directives/instructions issued from time to time by the DoPT for recruitment of sportspersons in central government departments.
