A 23-year-old Hazel Crest man has been charged in a double shooting that left one man dead last year in south suburban Lansing.

Tyrell Laws faces a count of first-degree murder, Lansing police said in a statement.

On Nov. 24, 2019, Laws allegedly shot the two men in a parking lot in the 2100 block of 175th St., police said.

The men drove to a nearby American Sales parking lot, where they were met by officers and paramedics, police said.

Terrence Welch, 35, was taken to Franciscan Health in Hammond and pronounced dead, police and the Lake County coroner’s office said. The other man was treated and released from Munster Community Hospital.

Laws was arrested Tuesday by Lansing police and the FBI’s violent crimes task force, police said. An arrest warrant had been signed on March 11, according to court records.

A Cook County judge on Monday ordered Laws held without bail, according to records.

He is due back in court April 15.
