LONDON: Eden Hazard struck twice as Chelsea came from behind to beat Newcastle United 3-1 in their Premier League match at Stamford Bridge on Saturday.
Newcastle took the lead on 12 minutes when Dwight Gayle pounced on a loose ball after Chelsea keeper Thibaut Courtois had dived at the feet of Jacob Murphy. Andreas Christensen hit the post on 20 minutes, but 31 seconds later Chelsea levelled, with Hazard firing past Karl Darlow.
The hosts went ahead on 33 minutes when Victor Moses crossed for Alvaro Morata's fifth -- and his side’s ninth -- headed goal of the season.
Hazard sealed the win with a penalty after Moses has been felled by Matt Ritchie.
The victory brings the Blues level on points with second-place Manchester United, who are at Arsenal in Saturday's late match. Newcastle lie 12th with 15 points pending the outcome of later games.
Newcastle's last Premier League victory at Stamford Bridge came in May 2012. Chelsea now have 16 league wins at home over both Newcastle and Tottenham Hotspur, more than they have against any other clubs.
