Haywood Avenue security alert after 'suspicious object' found in South Belfast

A security alert is under way after a 'suspicious object' was found in a street in South Belfast.

The object was discovered in Haywood Avenue on Thursday afternoon.

Police said a number of homes have had to be evacuated as a result.

A PSNI spokesperson said: "Police are currently attending a report of a suspicious object at the Haywood Avenue area of south Belfast this afternoon (Thursday 18 June).

"A number of homes have been evacuated and motorists are advised to avoid the area and seek alternative main routes for their journey."

There are no further details at this time.
