Haynes: Lakers intend to start LeBron James at point guard

If it looks like the Los Angeles Lakers don’t currently have a starting point guard on the roster, it appears that the Lakers front office agree. LeBron James is turning into No. 6 and will become the Lakers full-time point guard.

Chris Haynes of Yahoo Sports reports that the Lakers are fulling leading into the concept of LeBron as the primary ball-handler and are planning to start him at point guard, alongside free agent acquisition Danny Green.

The Lakers have added point guard Quinn Cook and re-signed Alex Caruso back to the team, but neither has legitimate experience as a starting point guard for an entire season. The Lakers also reportedly agreed to a minimum deal with Rajon Rondo, but with the plethora of wings at their disposal, having LeBron would likely be most useful as the point guard.

For anybody who has watched LeBron for the last 15 years, they know he controls the offense anyway. But doing it in such a formal way will help the Lakers roster understand the pecking order from the beginning of the season, something that was a struggle for the 2018-19 version of themselves.
