Haynes: Lakers and Lue working out details of contractual agreement

Everyone is waiting for Ty Lue to sign on the dotted line, including Ty Lue himself.

Chris Haynes of Yahoo Sports reported on Monday night that the Lakers and Lue are working on an agreement to make him the next head coach of the franchise.

Lue, 42, has not accepted the position yet as both sides continue to focus on contractual parameters, sources said.‬

ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported the other day that Monty Williams spurned the Lakers, even though they had never officially offered him, simply because they never imagined the Phoenix Suns would poach him.

So it appears that Lue isn’t quite accepting the deal yet. Reports have come out for the Lakers to save face, suggesting that Lue was always their No. 1 candidate. Perhaps Lue is working on extracting a small tax from the Lakers for their hesitation and make them put their money where their official statements are. However, it does seem like a pretty done deal, according to Lue’s birthday cake.

Lue coached LeBron James for nearly three seasons in Cleveland, which included an NBA Championship and three straight trips to the NBA Finals. Lue has a 128-83 (.607) record as a head coach.
