Haynes fires up the Audi Quattro manual for fans

THE Audi Quattro rally car revolutionised the motorsport following its unveiling at the 1980 Geneva Motor Show.

Developed in total secrecy by a small team and presented as a four-wheel-drive, five-cylinder, turbocharged “supercar”, the German marque's machine totally shook up the rallying world.

Now the new Haynes Audi Quattro Rally Car Enthusiasts’ Manual will appeal to all rally fans and petrolheads who have fond memories of the motoring icon.

The book, written by motorsport expert Nick Garton, examines the impressive competition history of the Group 4 and Group B rally cars of the 1980s and the drivers who tamed the groundbreaking machine.

Capturing the era wonderfully, the publication is fabulously illustrated with Audi archive material and behind-the-scenes and action shots from the likes of master rally photographer Reinhard Klein.

There are fascinating in-depth interviews with many of the drivers and engineers involved, including Michele Mouton, the first woman to win a World Championship Rally, as well as insight from champions such as Hannu Mikkola, Stig Blomqvist and Walter Rohrl.

The manual also offers helpful advice and information on how to buy a Quattro or build a replica, as well as a directory of approved contacts and organisations that can help enthusiasts wanting to learn more.

The Audi Quattro Rally Car Enthusiasts’ Manual is available from www.haynes.com priced at £25.
