Hayden Panettiere’s family and debut as an infant
Born Hayden Lesley Panettiere on August 21, 1989, in Palisades, New York, she was the daughter of actress Lesley Vogel and fire department captain Skip Panettiere. Her younger brother was actor Jansen Panettiere, who died in 2023. Her parents were both of half Italian descent, with German and English ancestry.
Hayden Panettiere's mother introduced her to commercials when she was only 11 months old. Her first advertisement came in 1990 for a Playskool toy train, beginning a career that would eventually span television, cinema, theatre, animation, video games and music.
Hayden Panettiere’s soap opera career began at four
At around four and a half, Hayden Panettiere joined ABC's One Life to Live, playing Sarah Roberts from 1994 to 1997. She appeared in 27 episodes. She then took on the role of Lizzie Spaulding in CBS's Guiding Light, appearing in 1996 and again from 1997 to 2000, across 45 episodes.
The Guiding Light storyline gave Hayden Panettiere one of her earliest opportunities to attract attention beyond the usual child-star roles. Her character Lizzie battled leukemia, and the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society presented Panettiere with its Special Recognition Award for helping bring the disease to the attention of daytime television audiences and raising wider awareness.
Hayden Panettiere movies included Remember the Titans and Raising Helen
