Hay fever warning as pollen counts soars ahead of Easter weekend

It could be a very tricky Easter weekend for hay fever sufferers as temperatures are set to soar.

The Easter bank holiday, which this year falls between Good Friday on April 19 and Easter Monday on April 22, is set to be a warm one as Manchester sizzles in 21 degree heat by Friday making it hotter than Menorca.

But whilst some of us can enjoy the sunny weather hassle free, others will be feeling a little less than their best as the pollen count rises.

According to the Met Office, pollen levels in Manchester will be high on Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday - making it a difficult few days for allergy sufferers.

Hay fever season has started three weeks early due to the unusually warm winter which saw the country bask in recording-breaking temperatures in February.

One in five people, around 18 million, suffer from hay fever causing symptoms such as sneezing, coughing, runny or blocked noses, or headaches.

It can also add extra difficulty to the three million asthma suffered in the UK, causing symptoms such as wheezing, a tight chest or coughing.

According to Asthma UK, grass pollen in particular can be a risk to those suffering from the condition.

This can be because their airways are more sensitive and therefore react to the histamine which is produced by your immune system if you have an allergy to pollen.
