Hawthorn Street in Springburn shut down by police after early morning crash

Police have shut down a street in the north of Glasgow after an early morning crash.

Hawthorn Street in Springburn is currently closed between between Memel Street and Fernbank Street following the collision.

Glasgow City Council issued an update shortly before 7am confirming police diversions are in place. Police Scotland have been contacted for more details about the crash.

Glasgow City Council's Traffic Control and Management team (TRAFFCOM) advised: "Following a Road Traffic Incident, Hawthorn Street is closed between Memel Street and Fernbank Street. Follow Police direction".

The crash comes amid a weather warning for snow and ice. The yellow warning remains in place until 11am this morning as drivers are urged to take extra care on the roads.

UPDATE: Police have confirmed the road has now re-opened, after a van crashed into parked cars.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 5.55am on Monday, 25 January, we received a report of a van having crashed into parked cars on Hawthorn Road.

“The road was obstructed for a short time while uplift of the vehicle was arranged and fully reopened around 7.20am.”
