Hawks’ Trae Young says LaMelo Ball is ‘next up’ after closed scrimmage

Trae Young and LaMelo Ball recently each participated in the Rico Hines closed scrimmages on UCLA’s campus, something that has been a common trend this summer so far for Ball. The runs are also a common spot for fellow NBA players to work out during the summer with Montrezl Harrell and Ike Anigbogu making stops as well.

After the scrimmages, Young apparently came away impressed with Ball as he took to Twitter to give props to the youngest Ball brother.

Ironically, Young might be the prototype for Ball’s NBA career. The obvious difference is Ball is already at least 6’6″ while Young is listed at (a generous) 6’2″. Aside from that, though, their games are rather similar.

Both possess deep three-point shooting range with Young’s probably a little deeper. Each also has great instincts and passing ability with the ball where, again, Young is superior. It should be expected that Young is the better prospect as he was both a high lottery pick and a more polished product.

But seeing Ball receive plaudits from NBA players validates his ranking as a prospect as well. Hopefully, it’ll be just one more year before Young and Ball meet on an NBA court.
