ATLANTA _ It's official _ the Hawks announced Friday afternoon they have re-signed Vince Carter, eight-time All-Star, 1999 Rookie of the Year and Dunk Contest winner in 2000.
Carter, 42, has said this will be his final season in the NBA, and it'll be a historic one as he continues to pass milestones. He will become the first player in NBA history to play in a 22nd season and, after appearing in a game in 2020, the first player in league history to play games in four decades.
Compared with active players, Carter ranks first in games played (1,481), second in field goals made (9,186), third in 3-pointers made (2,229) and third in points (25,430). He ranks fifth all time in games played and sixth all time in 3-pointers made.
In his 21-season career, with stints in Toronto, New Jersey, Orlando, Phoenix, Dallas, Memphis, Sacramento and now the Hawks, Carter has averaged 17.2 points, 4.4 rebounds, 3.2 assists and 1.0 steals per game.
Last season, appearing in 76 games for the Hawks, Carter averaged 7.4 points, 2.6 rebounds and 1.1 assists in 17.5 minutes per game.
Terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
