Hawks center Plumlee out another 2-3 weeks with injury

The Hawks said center Miles Plumlee will miss another two to three weeks because of a right quad injury.

The injury forced Plumlee to leave the first exhibition game on Oct. 1 and he missed the next three games. The center wasn't listed on the injury report before the Hawks played the Grizzlies on Monday but also didn't play in that game.

Plumlee, 29, doesn't project to be a part of the regular playing rotation this season. Center Dewayne Dedmon is the likely starter at center with Mike Muscala and John Collins also logging minutes at the position.

The Hawks acquired Plumlee in June as part of a trade with the Hornets. The Hawks sent center Dwight Howard and the 31st pick in the 2017 draft to the Hornets in exchange for Plumlee, Marco Belinelli and the 41st pick in the 2017 draft.

Hawks general manager Travis Schlenk made the trade in large part to gain some flexibility under the salary cap. Plumlee is owed $37.5 million over the next three seasons compared to the roughly $47 million remaining on Howard's contract over the next two seasons. Belinelli's contract expires after this season.
