Feb. 12--After a slippy first period, the Blackhawks and Canucks are tied 0-0.
The Hawks had a few chances in the period, mostly generated by their second line of Patrick Kane, Brad Richards and Patrick Sharp, but they came up empty. Kane had a breakaway in the final seconds of the period, but his attempt was stopped by Canucks goaltender Eddie Lack.
The Canucks lead in shots on goal 12-7.
The faces may be different on the Canucks' side of the ice, but some feelings of animosity still linger between them and the Blackhawks as the two renew their rivalry on Wednesday at the United Center.
"I think things always evolve in our business," Hawks coach Joel Quenneville said prior To Wednesday's game. "You have some different guys you have to compete against but it's still relatively fresh those three playoff years and important games during the regular season and the intensity and the emotion. I still think there's enough guys on both teams to capture that instantly."
The Hawks get one of their familiar faces back on the ice Wednesday in Kris Versteeg, who returns after missing 16 games because of a fractured hand.
Versteeg admitted he was a little extra nervous Tuesday night before re-taking the ice.
"You get the jitters the night before and you just get amped up and try to go out, harness that energy and make sure it's put in the right direction," Versteeg said.
The Canucks will feature two defensemen who developed in the Hawks organization in Adam Clendening and Ryan Stanton.
