Hawks break out against Rockets with 112-97 win

ATLANTA _ The Atlanta Hawks shooting slump lasted one day.

Atlanta got a much-improved offensive performance in a 112-97 victory over Houston Saturday night at Philips Arena. The Hawks shot near 60 percent for much of the game in a win that snapped a two-game losing streak.

The Hawks (4-2) had five double-digit scorers, all starters, in the win. Dwight Howard had 20 points and 14 rebounds against the team he played for the past three seasons before leaving via free agency for the Hawks. Howard has five double-doubles this season, including four straight games.

Paul Millsap finished with 23 points followed by Kent Bazemore with 20, Dennis Schroder with 17 and Kyle Korver with 10 points. Millsap had 11 rebounds and Schroder had 12 assists for double-doubles.

Bazemore and Korver were a combined 11 off 18 from the field, including five 3-pointers. They were a combined 1 of 16 in a loss at the Wizards Friday night when the team shot under 40 percent from the field.

The Hawks led by as many as 21 points, gaining the advantage for good in the opening minute of the second quarter and seeing it grow well into the fourth quarter.

The Rockets (3-3) were led by James Harden with a game-high 30 points, 12 assists and nine rebounds. He did not score in the fourth quarter.
