Havertz learning and Chilwell recovery - Things spotted in Chelsea training ahead of Liverpool

After their opening day win, Chelsea take on Liverpool this Sunday at Stamford Bridge.

The Blues got off to a decent start with a 3-1 victory over Brighton & Hove Albion, but Jurgen Klopp's side will be a completely different prospect.

Frank Lampard's side have been preparing in usual fashion ahead of the big match at home this weekend.

But what did we learn from the latest session on Thursday?

Kai Havertz on emulating Frank Lampard and Timo Werner friendship

More training for Thiago

Having just arrived in England after his move from PSG, Thiago Silva is taking his first steps as a Chelsea player.

The 35-year-old was not in time to play in the season opener against the Seagulls, but will be in contention for the match against the Reds.

Thiago has been training for the last couple of days with his new teammates as he looks to get a place in the starting XI.

Lampard went with Andreas Christensen and Kurt Zouma for the Brighton game, but Thiago would bring a great amount of experience to the squad.

Ben Chilwell's return

While there was a debut on Monday night for a couple of Chelsea's new signings, one who has had to wait is Ben Chilwell.

The left-back is recovering from a heel injury which saw him out of action for Leicester City at the end of last season.

However, this is a big week for the 23-year-old as he has been with the squad for the first time ahead of a potential return.

And Chilwell has been stepping up his fitness and looking to earn his place in the spot.

Kai Havertz and Frank Lampard discussions

Havertz had his Blues debut on Monday night, and while it wasn't the best evening for him, he will be looking to make amends on Sunday.

The 21-year-old is still very young in his Chelsea career and he will be looking to learn from Lampard when he can.

Havertz was spotted deep in conversations with his new boss ahead of a massive match at the weekend.

Mateo Kovacic

Chelsea were missing a big player on Monday night with Mateo Kovacic suspended due to the red card he picked up in the FA Cup final.

The Blues certainly missed his energy in the middle of the park, but he is back for the game against Liverpool.

The 26-year-old could be a bit rusty, however, with Kovacic having only had one pre-season game and some minutes for Croatia.

But he has been dusting the cobwebs off in training and should be ready for a big day on Sunday.
