Have your say on the shape of Belfast's public transport and the spread of lanes for cyclists

Belfast has just two miles of cycle lanes that are physically separated from traffic and pedestrians, according to a new report.

Despite the opportunities presented by the pandemic that distance hasn’t changed since 2019 as Northern Ireland invests the least in active travel in the UK.

But Belfast Live has found that 68% of residents who took part in the Walking and Cycling Index 2021 support building more on-road segregated tracks, even if it means less room for other traffic.

However, concerned families in North Belfast for example have raised concerns after they "were not consulted" about a new cycle lane in their area.

The Newington Residents Group emphasise they are not against the development of a cycle lane that is already taking shape along the Cavehill and Limestone Roads – but they are frustrated that they were not able to highlight their concerns to the Department for Infrastructure directly.

So what do you think? Will love for our cars prevent us embracing the bike? Could we be like Amsterdam and be a city in tune with pedal-power? Get commenting below.
