Have your say on plans to build 'one of our most iconic' coastal walking trails

Lake Macquarie and Central Coast residents have been asked to weigh in on a plan that would connect Caves Beach to Budgewoi with a continuous walking trail.

Two state offices - the National Parks and Wildlife Service and Transport for NSW - have released a draft plan for a walking corridor that spanning neighbouring suburbs including Budgewoi, Lake Munmorah, Catherine Hill Bay and Caves Beach.

Most of the trail is expected to run though Wallarah National Park and Munmorah State Conservation Area, the departments said in a statement inviting public feedback on the proposal.

"This draft master plan sets out an exciting vision for a coastal trail with ocean views, coastal bushland and places to stop and take in the scenery," National Parks and Wildlife director Kylie Yeend said.

Trudi Mares, the transport deputy secretary, said the plan represented part of the state's first 'walking strategy' to guide public spaces planning and design between state and local administrations.

She said the proposal aimed to be "one of our most iconic coastal walks and we want to hear valuable feedback from the community, especially if you live locally or have an interest in sustainable track development".

The draft proposal was gazetted on Thursday, June 12, and residents have until July 17 to lodge submissions.

Details of how to have a say can be found via the state environment department's website under the Caves Beach to Budgewoi coastal trail consultation page.
