Bangkok loves cafés. These days, the capital is full of coffeehouses offering a wonderful variety of drinks, snacks, atmosphere and décor. With so many great spots to choose from, it can be hard to decide where to go. So here at S Weekly, as part of our exclusive food special, we thought we’d recommend some of our favourite Bangkok cafés.

FILL IN THE BLANK

Fill in the Blank, located on Sukhumvit Soi 61, is a lifestyle café that combines simple elegance and warmth with its French-style wooden furnishings and hanging plants. Coffee is a serious business here. Each cup is meticulously prepared and served unsweetened. And if you’re not a coffee person, you can choose from their range of milkshakes, fruit smoothies and sodas.

There’s an impressive choice of quality food on offer. Customers can enjoy the all-day breakfast, classic pasta dishes or savoury muffins. We particularly liked the Bacon, Sausage & Fried Egg With Cheddar Cheese Pancake. Just make sure you leave some room for dessert. You don’t want to miss out on such delectable creations as the Mixed Berry Crumble or the Brownie Cheesecake. The café also sells household items, hand creams and clothing in its second- floor shop. Fill in the Blank is a perfect place to escape the busy world outside.

PERHAPS RABBITS’

Step into Perhaps Rabbits’ on Ekamai Soi 10 and you’ll find yourself transported to a magical world of rabbit-themed drinks and desserts. Everywhere you look, you’ll see images from Alice in Wonderland and the character of the White Rabbit. The background music from the film soundtrack adds to the dreamy atmosphere. Meanwhile, the Rabbits’ Hole, a naturally-lit artificial garden at the back of the café, is a great spot to take pictures.

When it comes to desserts, Perhaps Rabbits’ is definitely a wonderland. There is a bewildering choice of sugary treats, but the standouts are the Blue Bunny Egg and Rabbit Hole Mud Cake. And if you were wondering how they come up with their amazing creations, why not try and pick up some baking skills of your own? On the second floor, the popular Pop Me Up Cake Pop shop offers workshops on how to make cake pops. But whether you go there to learn or just to relax and enjoy yourself, you can be sure of a satisfying experience.

BUTTERFLY ORGANIC PLACE

A five-minute walk from BTS Thong Lor, Butterfly Organic Place specialises in healthy organic food and drinks. The café itself is a real oasis. The almost all-white décor is simple but attractive, and outside, the leafy Butterfly Garden is a lovely place in which to sit and relax. This atmosphere coupled with the healthy tasty treats should lift your spirits. But if that’s not enough, the inspirational quotes all over the walls will do the trick.

Be sure to try their best seller, the Organic Almond Milk, which comes in four distinct flavours. They also offer some fabulous desserts and pastries, most notably the White Chocolate Cheese Cake. And you don’t have to feel guilty, because it’s all organic!

LITTLE ZOO CAFÉ

Little Zoo Café has a new branch on Siam Square Soi 11. For those fascinated by exotic animals, this is the place for you. The café’s residents include silver foxes, fennec foxes, an arctic fox, cockatoos, guinea pigs, a snake, rabbits and cats and dogs. And then there is the star attraction — a raccoon named Puinoon.

While the main selling point of Little Zoo Café is clearly the animals, there are also some great items on the menu. Good food options include the Squid Ink Spaghetti with Crab Paste & Spicy Garlic, the Fried Pork, and the Fish and Chips. As for drinks, we recommend the Blue Lemon Soda or the Cocoa Peppermint Frappe. Whether you’re after some furry friendship or just a nice cuppa, Little Zoo Café is the place.
