Have you met a pope? Share your photos, videos and stories

Unmistakable in a white cassock and zucchetto, the pope (or more accurately one of the popes – not forgetting Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI) is one of the most recognisable people on the planet. As bishop of Rome and head of the smallest independent state, Pope Francis counts dignitaries, members of the faithful and the homeless among those he meets.

We’d like to hear from people who have encountered a pope. Have you been to a papal audience? Perhaps you were taught by Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI in Rome, known previously as Cardinal Ratzinger? Or maybe you’re a member of a religious order or an old friend, or simply spotted him on one of his international trips? We’ll feature a selection of your stories as part of our new How do I...? series.

You can share your experiences, photos or videos with GuardianWitness by clicking on the blue “contribute” button on this article or if you prefer you can use the form below.
