The Sun has launched a search for a new columnist. In announcing its Great British Sound-Off competition today, it urges readers with “plenty to say and writing talent to spare” to come forward.
Entrants are asked to tell the paper why they deserve to win and to write 200 words on something they feel passionate about.
There are two age categories (18-24 and 25+) and five of the younger winning entrants will be able to study at News UK’s news academy summer school in August.
Columns written by the five best of the over 25 finalists will be published and they get to visit to the Sun’s London Bridge headquarters.
The contest has the backing of pop singer Ella Eyre and TV host Jeremy Kyle. And Sun editor David Dinsmore sees it as “a great chance” for someone to launch a new career. He points out that a previous contest winner now works for the Sun’s features department.
So there’s a challenge for you all to take up. I tried filling in an entry form but the birth date box couldn’t accommodate someone born in 1946. Guess I’ll have to stick to the day job.
And in further News UK/Sun promotional news...
News UK has launched a gaming app, Sun Play, which features two games: Striker Keepy Uppy and Beach Blast.
News UK’s chief executive, Mike Darcey, says: “We recognise that the fastest growing way to play games is now on smartphone apps... and believe Sun Play is the ideal way for us to continue to extend our entertainment platforms”. Of course he does.
