Ever been on a date that’s going smoothly until you make a wisecrack about David Cameron and the person you’re with doesn’t laugh?
A new survey suggests that discovering your date has very different political views may not just be a mood-killer, it could also make it hard when it comes to introducing them to your parents. The YouGov survey found that the proportion of parents who would be “very upset” if their offspring married someone of a difficult political persuasion has more than doubled in eight years (admittedly it’s still a small proportion: up from 2% to 6% among Tory parents and moving from 4% to 10% among Labour mums and dads.)
But what if you ignored the naysayers and went for it anyway? We want to hear stories of love that bridges the political divide. Are you a true blue Tory married to a staunch Lib Dem? How do you cope with debate over the dinner table? What do your parents think? Has it affected the way you bring up your children? Or perhaps you were part of a couple for whom the political differences became too much, leading you to break up.
