Have you experienced misconduct from a driving instructor? We want to hear your story

Driving instructor misconduct often goes unreported, so we'd like to investigate the issue. (ABC News: Emma Machan)

In Australia, thousands of driving students get behind the wheel every year and to their left, sits a driving instructor.

Whether they work for a training school or an independent company, they're meant to be someone you can trust.

But some students learn the hard way that this isn't always the case: when their instructor harasses or assaults them in the car, with no one to protect them and nowhere to run.

While the number of cases of sexual harassment and assault during lessons that actually make it to court are few, we've still been hearing too many stories of it happening to learner drivers.

Few of these sexual harassment and assault cases make it to court, but some do.

The ABC is investigating the situation and we want to hear from you:

  • Have you been harassed or assaulted by a driving instructor?
  • Are you a parent or family member of someone this has happened to?
  • Are you an instructor ready to see those engaging in bad behaviour pushed out of the industry?

We're especially keen to hear from current and former students, family members, instructors and anyone involved in the driving lesson industry and its regulation.

If you have clients affected by this issue, such as a legal expert or case worker, we're also interested in hearing from you and you can remain anonymous.

Fill out the form below and our journalists may contact you about your submission for either a TV, radio, digital or social story.

Note: If you are a whistleblower and/or have sensitive files to send, please consider getting in touch via drivinglessons@abc.net.au or Signal (phone number here.)
