Have you experienced long-term gentrification in your neighbourhood? Share your stories

In recent years, there have been many stories of one of the biggest modern problems to impact cities: gentrification. From Belgrade and Bristol to Moscow and Istanbul, the process of neighbourhoods becoming increasingly wealthy has affected cities around the world.

But gentrification, of course, is not a new phenomenon. The term itself was coined in 1964. Although neighbourhoods in London such as Peckham and Stratford are currently experiencing the impact of it, Notting Hill began to gentrify in the 1970s into the wealthy area it is now. As parts of New York like Crown Heights and much of Harlem now face gentrification, places like Chelsea, or Park Slope, saw the process begin 20 or 30 years ago.

If you have stayed in the same place and seen gentrification change your neighbourhood over the last decade and more, we want to hear from you. Wherever you live in the world, share your stories of watching the impacts of gentrification transform your local area over the long term. When did you first notice it happening? What has the neighbourhood lost – and gained? How has it impacted your daily life?

Respond using the form below by Sunday 10 January and we will feature some of the best stories on Guardian Cities.
