Have you ever wondered what is on Lambay Island? Well, it's time you found out

If you are from Dublin, chances are you know about the majority of the places that make up our lovely capital.

However, there are a few mysteries surrounding certain places in Dublin's fair city.

Lambay Island is right up there when it comes to unexplored places by Dubliners. Located 4km off the coast of North Dublin, adjacent to Donabate and Rush, this little gem is home to a troupe of WALLABIES.

The wallabies were taken to the island by the Barings family when Dublin Zoo ran out of space in the 1980s, and have adapted well to life on the island

It is the largest island off the east coast of Ireland and is about 2.5 square kilometres (240 hectares or 593.1 acres) in size.

There is a pier, castle and row of houses on the island (Google Maps)

As of 2017, seven people call this curious island home. However, population on the island has steadily been decreasing over the course of the past few hundred years, with 89 registered as living on the island in 1841.

The island is accessible by invitation only , with visitors usually coming from Malahide Marina and occasionally Rogerstown Pier, Rush, and Skerries Harbour, which are all north of Dublin.

If you'd like to find out more about this wonderful and mysterious island, why not visit it yourself. Skerries sea tours operate a service to the island, with €45 getting you a boat tour of the island, lasting approximately two and a half hours, whilst €85.00 will get you a walking tour of the island, lasting approximately four and a half hours.
