Have you been wrapping your towel wrong your whole life?

Though it may currently seem like a distant dream - we still can't wait for a proper holiday.

Once you've arrived at your destination, unwinding poolside with an iced drink and the overpriced magazines we bulk-purchased at the airport is second-nature to many.

But recently, a video has surfaced that throws into question the 'correct' way of executing one ridiculously simple holiday practice that you've probably never paid any attention to...

How do you wrap a towel around your body?

It's most likely something you've copied off your mum as a child and stuck with for the rest of your life.

But is the method you've inherited secure or does the towel constantly unravel and fall to your feet?

Social media personality Jess Ruley, the star of popular TikTok channel @lifewjess recently shared a video showing viewers the 'correct' and 'incorrect' way to wrap a towel around your body.

In the video, @lifewjess admits: "I was today years old finding this out."

The video starts with a clip of an 'incorrectly' wrapped towel where just the overlapping corner is tucked in.

The TikTok star then shows a towel being wrapped 'correctly' which in involves the whole top edge of the towel that circles your waist being flipped over and tucked.

Jess narrates over this part of the video: "Fold all the way around, and it doesn't move at all."

Both methods are then tested in a quick catwalk strut and dance off - with the 'correctly' worn towel staying in place throughout.

The video received more than 928k likes and was shared 21k times.

In the comments section, thousands of social media users were quick to share their thoughts on the video - and feedback was mixed, to say the least.

A comment that received the most likes read: "This is genius, why haven't I ever done this."

Another agreed, posting: "This is genius! This is one of the reasons we need TikTok because it teaches us new things."

But some users argued that this method of wrapping a towel around your waist is common in many cultures, one TikTok user wrote: "Somalis have been doing this for thousands of years."

With others sharing that the method is also common in Hawaii.

But one person in the comment joked that both methods of towel wrapping were completely irrelevant: "Jokes on you, my towel doesn't even wrap around my body anyway!"
