Have the Texans done enough in free agency to make the playoffs?

The 2019 NFL schedule has been released and the Houston Texans are going to need to get the season off to a fast start. With all the waves of free agency washed ashore, the Texans appear to have not done enough to really move the needle with the first couple of games to start the 2019 season.

Walking into New Orleans on a Monday night with what is currently on paper is just not going to cut it. Quarterback Drew Brees and company will slice Houston’s secondary up. Having only Johnathan Joseph and second-year safety Justin Reid, defensive coordinator Romeo Crennel will have to dial up some big-time blitzes if they think that will be enough to stop Brees and receiver Michael Thomas.

General manager Brian Gaine will absolutely have to nail the 2019 draft that kicks off on April 25 if the club hopes to avoid a 9-7 record. Just drafting a couple of offensive tackles and guards is going to cut it. Not only Brees, but the Texans will face Pro Bowl quarterbacks in Philip Rivers, Cam Newton, Matt Ryan, Patrick Mahomes, Andrew Luck, and the living legend, Tom Brady.

Whatever the Texans and Gaine have done so far, they may want to rethink it and try a little harder. With $41.7 million in cap space, they better sign Jadeveon Clowney and more.

There is still the draft, the last leg of the retooling portion of the offseason, so, things could change in the drop of a dime. However, knowing what the Texans have to face and whom they have to go up against, Gaine and coach Bill O’Brien better have a prepared game plan if they even are thinking about getting out of the first round of the playoffs, let alone making the postseason.
