As the country’s death toll from the pandemic inched towards 300,000 last month, President Jair Bolsonaro told Brazilians to stop “whining” and move on.

Anger over his handling of the pandemic is growing, with Brazil recording the second-highest death toll after the United States.

But with the criticism of bankers and billionaires ringing in his ears, Bolsonaro appeared to be more conciliatory.

We speak to Jairo Lugo-Ocando from the Northwestern University in Qatar about the economic impact of Bolsonaro’s inaction.

And, Professor Nick Robins from the London School of Economics tells us why green bonds are crucial to a pandemic recovery.
