Have Sesame Street's Bert and Ernie finally come clean?

Sesame Street's Bert and Ernie have been roommates for more than 30 years but now, it seems, they may have been a lot closer than anyone realised. With their 'his and his' pyjamas there were always doubts about the sexual orientation of the duo, but the Independent reports that a 'careless update' by Bert on Twitter has been taken up by America's gay community as firm evidence that the puppet is now 'out'. Bert made a seemingly innocuous reference to a 'mo', in relation to a hairstyle – but apparently it is also slang for 'homosexual'. Cue mass debate in the US including a lengthy analysis in the Los Angeles Times about whether Sesame Street is 'brought to you by the letters G-A-Y'.
