Have Nottingham Forest's hopes of signing Sam Byram from West Ham been boosted?

Sam Byram’s proposed move to West Bromwich Albion looks to be off, after Solomon Rondon’s lucrative switch to China appears to have moved a step closer.

Byram, who spent last season on loan to Nottingham Forest, was offered as part of the deal by West Ham to try and entice Albion into selling the Venezuelan international, though it now looks like Rondon will join Rafa Benitez at Chinese Super League outfit Dalian Yifang and snub a host of English clubs, including the Hammers.

West Ham were reported to have lodged a £14m plus Byram bid with West Brom for Rondon, but the Sun claim Benitez’s new club may well secure his services for £25m, giving Albion a much-needed cash windfall as they look to safely navigate Financial Fair Play rules.

Forest were keen to bring Byram back to the City Ground following a disrupted loan spell at the City Ground last term which saw him make just eight appearances for the club.

The 25-year-old former Leeds United academy graduate injured his knee in a Carabao Cup win over Newcastle in August, missing much of the season before returning in April to face Sheffield Wednesday at Hillsborough.

Despite having a year left on his contract at the Olympic Stadium, Byram’s future under boss Manuel Pellegrini looks bleak, and will likely seal a move before the transfer window shuts early next month.
