Have Meghan Markle and Harry had the royal baby and is there a name?

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry announced they were expecting their first child back in October.

Now the Duchess of Sussex is due any day now.

Meghan told well-wishers her due date was the end of April or early May, but royal fans are still waiting for news, with no sign of the youngster so far.

However, Meghan and the Duke of Sussex have said they will only announce news of the birth once they have had time to celebrate together as a new family.

They said in a statement: "The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are very grateful for the goodwill they have received from people throughout the United Kingdom and around the world as they prepare to welcome their baby.

"Their Royal Highnesses have taken a personal decision to keep the plans around the arrival of their baby private.

"The Duke and Duchess look forward to sharing the exciting news with everyone once they have had an opportunity to celebrate privately as a new family."

The birth stone for May is an Emerald, and the baby's star sign will be Taurus.

If the royal baby arrives today, a May 1 arrival would see baby Sussex share a birthday with Queen Victoria's son Prince Arthur, actress Joanna Lumley, Lady Sarah Chatto - Princess Margaret's daughter - and actor Matt Di Angelo.

If the royal baby arrives on May 2, he or she will be born on Princess Charlotte of Cambridge's fourth birthday.

What will the Royal baby name be?

This is of course pretty speculative and unsurprisingly bookmakers can’t agree on a favourite.

Some bookies have Diana as short as 3/1, while others make it 12/1 that Prince Harry will opt for his mother’s name. The most likely male name according to most bookies is Arthur , priced at 8/1 in places.

Other names being touted are Alice and Victoria. Oddschecker say most of the top contenders are fairly traditional, while among the more adventurous monikers Gertrude and Hubert sit at 100/1.

The market suggests it’s more likely that Harry and Meghan’s first child is a girl, priced at 8/11. That’s an implied probability of 57.9% that there are cries of “It’s a girl”. The likelihood of the couple welcoming a boy currently sits at 5/4, according to oddschecker.com.
