Jurgen Klopp's champions finished a whopping 18 points clear of Manchester City last season.
Pep Guardiola's side lost an incredible NINE Premier League matches in defence of the crown they lifted the previous two seasons, while the Reds lost just once before the title was sealed.
And City showed their fragility every time they faced a must-win match - Lyon in the Champions League, Arsenal in the FA Cup semi-final, both Manchester derbies ...
Yet the bookies still make the Reds 7/4 outsiders to reclaim their crown this season, with City installed as Evens favourites .
No other team is even in the argument, with Manchester United next on the list at 8/1 .
Today's fixtures gave the Reds an eye wateringly tough start to the defence of their crown, with Championship champions Leeds United, Arsenal, Chelsea and a Merseyside derby all in the first five matches of the season.
But the bookies appear to have made their minds up already.
City were back to back champions before last season's phenomenal campaign by Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool in which they won 26 of their first 27 matches.
And the bookies clearly believe that that opening burst was a freakish one-off which cannot possibly be repeated.
Of course Klopp has heard these arguments before - and turned odds on their head.
Few other managers could have seen their side lose in a Champions League final - due to an injured talisman, a concussed goalkeeper and the goal of Gareth Bale's life - and convince his players to go again and win it.
But Klopp did - the campaign which included that impossible semi-final turn-around against Barcelona.
Then he exhorted his side to compile a staggering 97 Premier League points - the second highest points haul in top division history - but saw Manchester City secure one more.
The greatest act of Klopp's career was to somehow convince his players that they could do even more.
That would have meant something approaching perfection, something to break the hearts of Pep Guardiola's near perfect players.
So that's just what he did.
If you think he's capable of doing it again and want to take on the bookies, the market is here.
