Have any Love Island contestants ever 'stolen' the £50,000 prize?

Love Island 2021 is in full swing, and many are wondering who is genuinely looking for love – and who is playing a game.

Love Island is all about coupling up, finding a connection and a spark.

But let's not forget that the winning couple can win £50,000, which will no doubt be on some of the islanders' minds.

Love Island fans will be aware of the process. The singletons go into the villa and try to find someone they "vibe" with.

Contestants may change couples during fire pit recouplings – or they might be dramatically "dumped" from the island.

The remaining couples who make it to the final are in with a chance of winning a £50,000 cash prize.

The public vote for whoever they want to win Love Island – and they will have the decision to choose love or money.

Putting their new relationship to the test, each of them pick en envelope – one with £0 on and the other with £50,000.

The person who receives the £50K envelope must decide whether to split the money with their other half – or keep it all for themselves.

The final test will determine if it was all a game – or was it for love.

Love island first aired for two seasons between 2005 and 2006. It rebooted in 2015, and started producing many new reality stars including: Dani Dyer, Molly-Mae Hague, Olivia Buckland, Maura Higgins and Chris Hughes.

Couples have left the villa and either stayed together or gone their separate ways, but did anyone ever steal the cash prize?

No one has stolen the £50,000 prize. Since the UK show was rebooted in 2015, all couples have chosen to share the cash prize. All choosing love and to split the money.

However, Jessica Hayes, who won the show in 2015 with Max Morley, has admitted she wishes she had kept the money.

The very first winners from the reboot of Love Island split only six weeks after leaving the villa.

In a Facebook live Event with Daily Star, she sent a warning to future contestants: "Don't fall in love and just take the fifty grand."

Winter Love Island winners Paige Turley and Finley Tapp split the cash prize, and they are still living together in Manchester.

2019 winners Amber Gill and Greg O'Shea split the prize, but they broke up shortly after winning.

Dani Dyer and Jack Fincham won in 2018 and shared the money – but they parted ways a year after the show.

Despite saying they would marry each other, 2017 winners Amber Davies and Kem Cetinay broke up 132 days after the show ended.

They split the £50,000 prize, but it is said they both earned £1million after leaving the villa.

In 2016 Cara De La Hoyde and Nathan Massey took home the £50,000 prize – and split it equally.

The couple went from strength to strength, they got married in 2020 and have since brought their “forever home” together.

It remains to be seem whether the winners of Love Island 2021 decide to split the cash – or whether one of them will steal it.
