'Have a word' - Newcastle United fans send Steve Bruce message after Elliot Anderson update

Plenty of Newcastle United fans would like to see Steve Bruce give youngster Elliot Anderson a chance in their relegation battle.

Anderson made his England debut this weekend, turning out for the Under-19s in a friendly match against Arsenal Under-23s at St George's Park.

The 18-year-old Geordie - who has previously represented Scotland at youth level - played at number 10 for the Young Lions and caught the eye in a 45-minute cameo.

England were 2-0 up at half-time and went on to win the match 6-1.

Anderson was handed his senior first-team debut for Newcastle this season, coming off the bench in the FA Cup defeat to Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium in January.

He made his Premier League bow - also from the bench - against the same opposition later that month, but has not featured since.

Newcastle are hovering above the drop zone with nine games left to play - one place and two points ahead of third-from-bottom Fulham.

The Magpies have won only twice in their previous 20 matches.

Bruce was asked about Anderson's prospects earlier this month, saying: "If I had to put him in, then I would put him in - but he is young and inexperienced.

"I think what I need at the moment is all the experience I can that can handle the situation.

"We have a very good young player on our hands. Let's not forget he is only 18."

Here's what the fans had to say...

After his England outing, Anderson took to social media, posting a photograph of him in action on Twitter.

That prompted a raft of replies from the Newcastle faithful, many of think the teenager should be in first-team contention.

"Next stop a regular run in the first team I hope," said one supporter.

Another tweeted: "Well done. Might actually get a game for your club soon hopefully."

A third fan posted: "Have a word with Brucey you need to be knocking on that first team door man."

Meanwhile, a fourth added: "Should be playing for #NUFC seniors regularly, hope to see the day."
