Havana-style refurb at Alma de Cuba 'transforms' outdoor terrace

Alma de Cuba has transformed its outdoor terrace and created new Cuban-inspired menus just in time for the summer.

The former St Peter’s church building on Seel Street now has a revamped garden which has its own CBD Cocktails, frozen cocktails and spritz menu. Visitors can soak up the sun with frozen daiquiris, margaritas, watermelon sugar martinis and fruity cocktail pitchers.

General manager Craig Cavanagh said: “This is the New Testament for Alma. It’s so stunning, like nowhere else in Liverpool, and we love it so that’s why we’re really keen to see where we can take it.

“There’s investment being made into the building and the business, the staff are fantastic and we’re 100% committed to making Alma a very special place. We believe the potential is limitless and we want the whole city to be involved.”

The terrace has been completely renovated and redecorated with floral walls and colourful Bacardi heritage Havana-style posters, new outdoor furniture and parasols and branded Jacquart champagne ice buckets. The garden, which is open until 2am, also has a DJ booth with regular live entertainment set to be lined up.

Craig continued: “We’ve also got some little funky bits that people can have some fun with, so white fedoras, fans and sunglasses on the tables. There are little photo opportunities everywhere for customers to come and enjoy.”

Inside, Alma has new Cuban-inspired, flavour-packed small plates and mains such as shrimp creole, chilli garlic prawns, Cuban meatballs and yukka fries. There’s also a new cocktail menu said to 'reflect the Cuban theme'.

Loyal fans of the bar don’t need to worry about too much change though, as the legendary petal drop on the altar with samba fiesta on Saturday nights is 'definitely staying' along with 'Seven Sins' on Friday and 'Voodoo' on Saturday.

Craig concluded: “Alma de Cuba is one of Liverpool’s best-loved venues and it’s given so much to the city over the years. We felt it deserved to be shown a bit of love so now the ideas are flowing and it’s getting the attention it deserves.”
