Haulier gives HGVs colourful makeover to help attract more visitors to Stoke-on-Trent

A Stoke-on-Trent haulage firm has given two of its HGVs a colourful makeover - in an effort to attract more visitors to the city.

Danny W Poole and Sons, based in Hanley, has paid for new livery on two of its trucks showcasing some of the Potteries' most popular tourist attractions and heritage spots.

The company vehicles will highlight attractions - including The Regent Theatre, the World of Wedgwood, Trentham Monkey Forest and Middleport Pottery - to new audiences as they drive across Europe, helping to promote the city on an international scale.

Emma Bridgewater, Gladstone Pottery Museum and the Mitchell Arts Centre also feature on the side of the trailers.

Phil Houlton, operations director at Danny W Poole and Sons, said: "The advert we have got on the side for Stoke-on-Trent is two-and-a-half metres high.

"They are fantastic trailers, which we track right across the country and, in fact, into the whole of Europe.

"These trailers can expect to cover over 1,000 kilometres a week. They will be seen right across Germany, Belgium and Holland."

The move is all part of the Re-discover Stoke-on-Trent campaign which has been launched to support the city's tourist venues which have just re-opened following the Covid-19 pandemic.

Stoke-on-Trent's visitor economy attracts 5.5 million visitors a year, who spend £272 million and support 6,764 jobs.

Councillor Lorraine Beardmore, cabinet member for culture, leisure and public health at Stoke-on-Trent City Council, said: "The tourism industry has had a really tough time over the last 18 months.

"It's fantastic to start to welcome visitors back to our wonderful attractions. And what better way to do it than to celebrate with these fantastic trailers."
