Haul of face masks found as man, 40, arrested on suspicion of stealing PPE from his work

A 40 year-old man was arrested on suspicion of stealing PPE from work.

Officers from Merseyside Police attended an address in Bromborough, Wirral today, May 1, where a quantity of personal protective equipment was seized.

A man was arrested and taken into custody for questioning.

Photos taken at the scene today, show the stolen PPE equipment, which includes protective face masks.

Detective Inspector, Nick Suffield said: “Despite the coronavirus lockdown our investigation work is ongoing and we will continue to act on information supplied to us."

In April, a man was jailed in London for stealing protective face masks, paper suits and hand gel from the back of an ambulance.

The equipment was meant to protect paramedics bravely working amid the coronavirus pandemic but Mark Manley helped himself to it.

The 35-year-old took it from an ambulance near London Bridge station and attacked a security guard and racially abused another when confronted, a court heard.

Manley, 35, was handed a six month sentence at Croydon Magistrates' Court after being found guilty of theft and assault on an emergency worker.
