Haul of booze seized as Lanarkshire police crackdown on disorder

A haul of booze was seized by police in East Kilbride as part of an initiative to tackle anti-social behaviour around Calderglen Country Park.

And parental letters will be sent to all youths involved as a result to discourage further disorder.

Throughout the Easter holidays, community officers will be conducting high visibility foot patrols in the problem areas along with assistance from the support unit, the mounted branch and air support.

Police posted on social media: "As a result of patrols at the weekend a number of youths were stopped and had alcohol seized from them and some were reported for being in possession of an open alcohol container in a public place. The picture is from one of these seizures.

"Along with a number of other identified offences, one male was charged for allegedly being in possession of an offensive weapon and another for allegedly being in possession of a quantity of illegal drugs.

"These circumstances will be sent to the Procurator Fiscal."

Licensed premises in the East Kilbride area have also signed up to a new bottle marking scheme.

Alcohol will be marked in stores prior to purchase.

If any alcohol is seized or found discarded within the park, police will be able to identify the origin of that sale.

Any offences highlighted will be dealt with appropriately.
