Haul of £20 notes and 10kg of drugs seized as police raid Croxteth home

This was the 10-kilo haul of speed and £48,000 of cash seized following a raid in Croxteth.

Officers executed a warrant at a property in Petherick Road and initially discovered three kilos of suspected amphetamine and more than £2,500 in money.

Also found were weighing scales, mobile phones, and a diary which listed contacts around the country.

The two occupants, a man and a woman, both aged 41, were arrested for money laundering and possession with intent to supply Class A and B drugs.

But police suspected there could be more evidence of their alleged peddling and located a Vauxhall van which had been parked in a nearby street.

At first glance, the vehicle appeared to be a standard worker's van, with a shelving framework built into the back.

But one of the police dogs quickly indicated that the van contained drugs.

After removing part of the Vauxhall, officers found a carrier bag of more drugs and a carrier bag stuffed with extra wads of cash.

Sergeant Matt Hereford, of Merseyside Police, said: “The ar

rests at this property today will put a serious dent into organised crime in the Croxteth area.

"The illicit production and supply of drugs supports and enables gun crime which, as this community has recently seen, can have devastating consequences.

"Today’s search and arrests will hopefully show the public that Merseyside Police will not tolerate gang activity in our communities.

"Although we have made great strides in tackling criminality in Croxteth, we still need the community to come forward with information and intelligence to assist us."

The swoop was part of a coordinated day of strikes in north Liverpool following a sudden fortnightly spike in gun crime across the county.

And it comes four days after an innocent trick and treating 12-year-old girl was seriously hurt by a reversing VW Golf whose 22-year-old driver had just been shot on Sceptre Road in Croxteth.

A gunman lay in wait for him, almost certainly hiding in Orb Walk alleyway, where gun cartridges were discovered by local residents.

The St John Bosco Arts College pupil was dragged underneath the car, leaving her with a fractured skull three minor bleeds on the brain and injuries to her back.

Six heroic mums dashed to the scene and managed to pick up one end of the Golf so she could be pulled to safety.
