Haugh of Urr's Jo Muir takes fourth place in latest pentathlon World Cup event

Jo Muir has moved another step closer to claiming a spot at this year’s Olympic Games in Tokyo.

The Haugh of Urr athlete narrowly missed out on another medal in the latest pentathlon World Cup event, finishing fourth in Sofia.

But she bagged vital points in the qualification race and now sits second behind Pentathlon GB team mate Kate French who finished second in Bulgaria.

Friday’s final started in the pool, Muir’s 2:15.12 an improvement on her semi-final time to put her ninth place in the early standings.

A record of 19 wins and 16 defeats gave her 13th place in the fencing, maintaining her ninth position.

And she had a successful ride, finishing ninth with just one obstacle penalty, moving her up to eighth overall.

Muir made early progress in the laser run with some fantastic shooting and determined pacing to set the sixth fastest time of 12:25.00. However, she wasn’t quite able to claim the final medal and took fourth.

That came on the back of a silver medal in Budapest last time out – which was her first competitive action since last year’s World Cup victory in Cairo.

Those results mean she is currently top of the World Cup rankings, with the next event getting under way in Bulgaria today.
