Haugh of Urr pentathlete Jo Muir retains Budapest Indoor Competition title

Jo Muir successfully defended her title at the Budapest Indoor Pentathlon Competition.

The Haugh of Urr athlete got her competitive year off to the perfect start by clinching the title on Friday, having won the event 12 months earlier.

She said: “Behind every athlete is a whole team so I’d like to say a massive thank you to Jan Bartu and Michal Janca as well as everyone in Pentathlon GB from support staff and coaches to team mates and also The National Lottery UK for supporting my journey so far”

All four Pentathlon GB women made it through to the final, although one – Kate French – then had to withdraw from the competition.

The final began in the pool where Muir’s time of 2:15.42 was good enough for seventh overall. She then took eighth in the fencing with 21 wins and 14 defeats to move up to sixth, which became fourth after a maximum score in the horse ride.

And she stole the show in the laser run with a time of 11:53.80, enough for first place in the discipline and the overall event.

Pentathlon GB performance director Jan Bartu described her display as “excellent”.
