A talented young karter is set to rub shoulders with grand prix star Lewis Hamilton next month.
Frazer Anderson from Haugh of Urr has been selected by Motorsport UK as an FIA F1 Future Star after being crowned double British Bambino champion last year — the youngest ever driver to win the title.
Eight-year-old Frazer, who attends Hardgate Primary, will have VIP access at the British Grand Prix at Silverstone on Sunday, July 14, which will see him get into the paddock and on the grid ahead of the race.
Dad Graeme said: “He’s excited. He follows Formula One, although he’s still quite young so doesn’t know what it all involves.”
This year, Frazer is competing in the cadet class of the IAME Championship. He’s driving for Oliver Rowland Motorsport, the team of the Formula E driver and podium finisher. Later in the year, he’ll be heading to Lonato in Italy to take part in the world finals.
Frazer was the first of eight FIA F1 Future Stars chosen by Motorsport UK for this year’s British Grand Prix. The scheme is open exclusively to young karters.
Motorsport UK CEO, Hugh Chambers, said: “This is a fantastic initiative. Eight young karters will get to experience an unforgettable day at this year’s British Grand Prix, soaking up the pre-race atmosphere in the paddock before joining their heroes on the grid ahead of the race.
“The opportunity to represent British motorsport, and grassroots karting in particular, will inspire our competition winners, both on and off the track — and hopefully motivate any future young drivers who may be sat in the grandstands or watching from home, to get involved with this amazing sport.”
