Hatem Elhamed's Celtic exit drawing closer with clubs waiting in the wings to do January deal

Hapoel Be’e’r Sheva are set to make a move to take Hatem Abd Elhamed back to Israel.

The Celtic defender is keen to return to his homeland to be nearer his wife and son, and his former club are among several chasing the defender’s signature.

Hapoel Be’er Sheva are reportedly the favourites, and a move could be financed by their owner Alona Barakt as the Celtic Park club look to recoup the £1.6million they spent on Elhamed last summer.

It’s understood Elhamed would prefer a permanent move home rather than a loan, and a number of Israeli clubs are keen to try and do a deal with the Scottish Premiership champions.

Maccabi Tel Aviv are interested in signing their former youth player, while Maccabi Haifa are also in contention.

Beitar Jerusalem are credited with an interest but are thought to be outsiders at this stage.

Elhamed has made 29 appearances in total under Neil Lennon, meaning seven assists during his time in green and white

He suffered heartbreak in Glasgow this year as part of the Israel side that Scotland defeated on penalties at Hampden to end their Euro 2020 qualification hopes.
