Hatem Elhamed nears Celtic exit as Neil Lennon reveals 'struggle' for Israel defender

Hatem Elhamed is set to finalise a move away from Celtic as he heads home to Israel.

The defender has struggled during the Coronavirus pandemic with his wife and young son back in his homeland and being unable to see them.

And now Celtic have agreed a fee to allow him to head back home with Neil Lennon revealing it is the right decision for the sake of the player.

Elhamed hasn't played since a second half substitute appearance against Rangers in January with just 16 games in all competition for the Hoops.

But now he'll leave Celtic Park in the coming days with Lennon telling BBC Sportsound: "Hatem Elhamed might be going back to Israel. A fee has been agreed so I’m not sure it’s been finalised yet.

"He’s really struggled, his wife and young son are back in Israel and he’s been through a really rough time of it mentally rather than anything else so for his well-being and he really wanted to go home so that deal is going to come to fruition today or tomorrow."

Elhamed is the second right back to leave Celtic in the last 10 days after Jeremie Frimpong joined Bayer Leverkusen.
