Hatem Elhamed closes in on Celtic exit as heartwarming video emerges of family reunion

Heartwarming footage of Hatem Elhamed reuniting with his son has emerged on social media.

The defender is set to leave Celtic to return to Israel with Hapoel Be'er Sheva after suffering during the coronavirus lockdown.

Neil Lennon revealed he had difficulties being in Scotland while his family were in Israel and Celtic allowed him to leave the club to head home.

A deal was agreed with Be'er Sheva and Elhamed flew to Israel with his agent Dudu Dahan posting an emotional video on Twitter of Elhamed reuniting with his son.

The brilliant clip sees the defender going through arrivals at the airport and being met by his son who sprints into his arms.

Celtic fans loved it too and even if they wanted to keep him at Celtic Park, they were happy to let him move on, with one saying: “It’s a shame it didn’t work out here for Hatem. However it’s clear that this was in his best interests. Best of luck to him.”

Another added: “That right there is the reason he went home, he’s clearly a good family man and misses his family instead of being stuck in an apartment thousands of miles away on his own. A lot of folk don’t understand the mental strain it puts on you.”

A third said: “There’s no place like home, and family comes first. Wish it worked out at Celtic, but glad you got to go home."

Speaking about the move, Lennon had said: "He’s really struggled, his wife and young son are back in Israel and he’s been through a really rough time of it mentally rather than anything else so for his well-being and he really wanted to go home so that deal is going to come to fruition today or tomorrow."
