Hatem Abd Elhamed's Celtic exit confirmed as defender completes Hapoel Be'er Sheva return

Celtic right-back Hatem Abd Elhamed has completed a permanent transfer to Israeli side Hapoel Be'er Sheva.

The defender has been unable to settle in Scotland since his arrival from Be'er Sheva in the summer of 2019, and pushed for a transfer in January to be closer to his family.

He landed back home in Israel on Tuesday to finalise a return to the club and Celtic have officially confirmed the deal.

A brief club statement reads: "Hatem Abd Elhamed has joined Hapoel Be'er Sheva on a permanent basis.

"The club would like to thank Hatem for his contributions at Celtic and wish him the very best in his future career."

A statement released from his agent on his behalf earlier this week read: "To all Celtic fans, thank you for the support, understanding and love.

"I will be grateful forever for the privilege of playing for you. Celtic will stay in my heart forever and ever.”

Elhamed managed 30 appearances for Celtic throughout his time with the Premiership champions.

He last featured in the defeat to Rangers after the new year, however, and hasn't started a match since Neil Lennon's team lost to Ross County in the Betfred Cup.
