Hatem Abd Elhamed gives Celtic a Champions League right-back headache as Israeli suffers injury

Celtic are facing a Champions League headache after new signing Hatem Abd Elhamed was forced off injured against St Johnstone.

The 28-year-old made an instant impact on his debut against Tommy Wright's side but appeared in real discomfort as he trudged off the pitch at the start of the second half as he nursed a leg injury.

And that will leave Hoops boss Neil Lennon sweating with the Israel international being brought in to offer a solution to Celtic right-back problem.

The Premiership champions face Cluj in their Champions League third round qualifier on Wednesday and the club's latest signing could face a fight to be fit.

Lennon, through necessity, started central defender Kris Ajer against Sarajevo at full back and Abd Elhamed is expected to nail down the position after the departure of Mikael Lustig.

Academy graduate Tony Ralston replaced the new boy and the Scotland youth international could be forced into the starting XI in Transylvania.

There's better news for Celtic with both Christopher Jullien and Jozo Simunovic set to return for the showdown with Cluj after serving their domestic suspensions.
